DGJ Tile & Marble is committed to making dgj-tile-installation.com usable by everyone, including people who use assistive technology like screen readers, screen magnification, voice control, or keyboard-only navigation. This statement describes what we've built, what we know still needs work, and how to reach us if something on this Site isn't working for you.
Our standard
We're building this Site to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA — the standard most commonly referenced for accessibility conformance, including by U.S. government and many state and local requirements.
What we've done
Specific things built into the Site, not a general promise:
- Keyboard access — Every interactive element, including the services menu, FAQ
accordions, and the before/after project slider, can be operated with a keyboard alone, not just
a mouse or touch screen. The services dropdown and FAQ answers use the browser's native
<details>element, so they work correctly with assistive technology without any custom scripting. - Visible focus — Every link, button, and form field shows a visible focus outline when reached by keyboard, styled in our accent color so it's easy to see against the page.
- Labeled forms — Every field in the estimate request form has a real, associated
<label>, not just placeholder text, and validation errors are announced to screen readers when a required field is left incomplete. - Skip link — A "Skip to main content" link is the first focusable element on every page, so keyboard users don't have to tab through the header and navigation every time.
- Alt text — Photos on the Site get real, descriptive alt text; where a real project photo isn't available yet, the Site shows a clearly labeled placeholder instead of a broken or empty image.
- Color contrast — Our palette — dark graphite text on light limestone and stone backgrounds — was chosen to keep body text and links well above the 4.5:1 contrast ratio WCAG AA requires.
- No motion-only cues — Nothing on the Site relies on animation or motion alone to convey information, and the Site respects your operating system's "reduce motion" setting.
- Resizable text — Text can be resized up to 200% in your browser without losing content or functionality.
Known limitations
We're not claiming perfection. Specific things we know still need attention:
- We haven't yet completed a full manual audit with a screen reader (NVDA, JAWS, or VoiceOver) — testing so far has been automated and keyboard-based.
- The embedded Google Maps view on the Contact and Service Area pages is provided by Google, and its accessibility is outside our control — a plain-text link to the same location on Google Maps is always provided as an alternative.
- Real project photos are still being added. Until they are, some image areas on the Site show placeholder text rather than a finished photo.
